National Day of Service

More to document while the details are fresh then to "bragpost", I'm writing today. Eventually these pictures will be in the scrapbook and I've started to rely on blogging to keep track of details.

SO!

If you live in our town, maybe you drive by the corner where they sell cows (yes, real ones) and also build trailers across the street, once in a while. It's the corner seeing a whole lot more traffic these days, thanks to the construction detour... those are the best hints I can give.

And if you've driven by anytime in the last week or so, maybe you've noticed a whole bunch of white paper all over the side of the road. We first drove by when it was still in the road, apparently lost by someone who buys paper a ream at a time (we found the wrapper... it was an entire ream).

We decided to make this our project today ~ even taking Mr. Obama up on his idea to make this MLK/Human Rights Day a day of service.

I apologize to Kathryn for not getting a picture of her. She was running circles around everyone else and I'm afraid I missed her completely.

In about fifteen minutes we had made the world a better place
(once a Girl Scout...)

Then we wandered back a little to say hi to the cows we had been listening to while we picked up. Here's Nathan waving hi and bye to them:

This fine lady came right to the fence to say hello.

Well hello there beautiful #77!

Nathan was a good helper and about three minutes after we got back in the van, here he was:

Someone suggested we take all the paper to the recycler, rather than throw it in the trash.

Are we green or what!!

There wasn't a bin marked "rubber", but we did find a few extras among the paper. Liz had started to say, "don't take my picture!!". oops.

We finished off our outing with a movie from Redbox

(did you know you can get a FREE rental every Monday? go to their website and they text it to you each week)

Sure hope 'Horton Hears a Who' is a good one!
